The Paleothic diet or simply Paleo diet represents the secret that made the humans of that era generally healthier, stronger and more agile than modern man. This secret was first brought to world attention by gastroenterologist Walter Voegtlin in the 1970s when he set forth that today’s humans will do better health wise if they adopt the Paleo diet that consists mainly of fish, meats from pasture animals, fruits, vegetables, root crops and nuts.

Today, the Paleo diet has become a modern nutritional meal plan primarily based on wild animals and plants. It is based on the premise that modern humans are genetically adapted to the diet of their Paleolithic ancestors and that human genetics have scarcely changed since the dawn of agriculture. Consequently, an ideal diet for human health and well-being is one that resembles this ancestral diet.

Proponents of the Paleo diet argue that modern human populations that started to subsist on traditional diets similar to those of Paleolithic hunter-gatherers were largely free of the so-called “diseases of affluence.” These allude to diseases brought on by the consumption of foods that have been processed lavishly, with rare and expensive additives in them.

But it excludes the following: grains (including bread, pasta and noodles), beans (except string beans, kidney beans, lentils and snow peas), sugar, salt and potatoes. These types of foods have been found to slow the digestive process, causing various ailments. Too much of salt and sugar, for example, often leads to diabetes.

Foods to eat
Eat only lean meat, chicken, fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables, berries and nuts. But root vegetables are out, including potatoes and sweet potatoes because of their high starch content.

When it comes to nuts, the best are walnuts, macadamia, almond and Brazil nuts. Peanuts and cashews are excluded since peanut is classified as a bean while cashew is another family.
